In 2026, I continued the search for earth pigments in Limassol in Cyprus thanks to an invitation from my host, the Memeraki art residency, in pursuit of The Search for the Man with Green Earth. Green-blue pigments can be found in the lower pillow lavas in the Troodos mountains, and these have been historically used in the Byzantine frescoes on the island, and have currently been of interest to a growing cohort of contemporary artists. The small diaristic paintings filled with memories of a voyage, also searching for light and color through green and blue, translate into paintings that evoke the Mediterranean Sea and connecting with Cyprus’ unique geology.
The fertility of the water and its sea foam (from which the Greek Goddess Aphrodite was born) were at the core of this work.
